Becoming a Powerful Math Mentor: Empowering Students to Think, Reason, and Problem Solve for Themselves

$3.00

 Product Description

Do your kids hate math? Do they struggle to stay motivated through mundane work? Can you blame them? A "memorized and regurgitated" curriculum does not adequately prepare our students for math-intensive opportunities that are so abundant in the information age. Families across the country are discovering a different approach. For them, math has become an engaging and powerful part of their homeschooling. They’ve learned to unlock the potential that mathematics has to teach their children how to think and reason.

So, if you think to yourself...

I am worried that my kids are behind in math. I'm not sure I know math, so how am I supposed to teach it? I am sick of sending my kids off with workbooks. I wish my kids didn't dread doing math. I wish I didn't dread math time. My kids are doing the work, but are they really learning math? Math in my home is broken and it needs to be fixed. ...this presentation is for you.

Presenter: Emily Dyke is co-founder of Math Inspirations and author of Hands On Math and 10 Things Every Parent Should Know About Math. Emily’s pursuit of professional teaching began at Brigham Young University in their Mathematics Education program. Soon, Emily’s mentor, renowned math education guru Dr. Blake Peterson asked Emily to join him in his research and teaching others in her program. Under Dr. Peterson, Emily mastered the art of teaching a deep, conceptual understanding of math. After years of study, Emily moved to Yuma, AZ to teach at Yuma High School. What did she discover? That all the great theories she had learned didn't work, at least not in the current educational model. It wasn't until she started teaching her nieces and nephews that the Discovery Method was born. Since then, Emily has worked with parents from all over the country to help them apply the Discovery Method and watched their families use math in a powerful way to become more self-reliant thinkers.
