Family Work is a tool for building character and great habits to strengthen families and individuals. As our family members draw upon good family work principles and techniques, we become effective instruments in bringing about the Lord’s great latter-day work. This class will help parents learn how to use principles and ideas that can be used to bless the lives of their children eternally.
Presenters: Jim and LaDawn Jacob are the parents of 11 children and 53 grandchildren. LaDawn is the daughter of Verlan and Shirley Andersen, two of the founders of American Heritage School. She is presently a member of the Board of American Heritage School. She was the designer of her children’s education that included homeschool, co-op classes, private, public, private tutoring and correspondence courses. Her great love is teaching children, singing with her family, being a missionary, wife and mother. Jim and LaDawn worked on their sheep ranch moving to the mountains near Scofield, Utah in the summer and back to Orem in the winter. Later Jim attended BYU, where he graduated in accounting at age 39, became a CPA and worked for BYU Continuing Education for 17 years as an accountant. During his student years he built the family home for his growing family on Verlan and Shirley Andersen’s small farm. His children remember that Dad always woke them up at 5:00 am to milk cows and do other chores before family devotional and school. Jim and LaDawn planted an orchard and had a large garden to help their children learn how to work. They believed that parents shouldn't work alone, so they always had a child, or children with him while they worked, and coached them how to do each job well. When LaDawn was away from home for a speaking engagement, James always kept the house spic and span!
